OPC-UA (Unified Architecture) is the further development of the OPC-Data-Access (DA)-protocol. Unlike DA, UA allows communication between different operating-systems and networks.

OPC-UA represents the "de facto standard" for Industry 4.0
With OPC-UA the process data exchange can be realized via firewall and Internet with secured data connection
OPC-UA uses conceptually secure-data-transmission (SSL). The application-layer itself can be protected by user/password or by certificates
OPC-UA is platform independent (Windows/Linux/Embedded)

What does server machine-data OPC-UA do?
Server machine-data OPC-UA provides the process data of the SIMATIC S7 or SIMATIC S5 according to the OPC-UA standard. - The alternative to the classic OPC-DA-server - This means that the data of the SIMATIC S7/S5 can be accessed directly with each OPC-UA-client (SCADA, MES, etc.). The server can realize virtually unlimited PLC connections. The WEB-configuration-interface quickly creates the variables of the PLC (nodes). The operation and configuration is done with WEB-Browser or Tablet. Server machine-data OPC-UA communicates on a TCP/IP-basis. A binary and XML format (HTTP) is possible. Any number of OPC-servers with different types of protocols (TCP / HTTP) can be operated simultaneously.
