Protection of the control against "external" access with IP- or MAC-address, protection of data-areas (read/write)
Integration of the "old system" into the world of "new and modern systems" using S7-TCPIP with PUT/GET function.
By plugging the module onto the PPI, MPI or Profibus, this connection becomes an Ethernet port for the Industrial IoT.
Thanks to the integrated multiplexer, this connection becomes a port for all supported protocols. Simultaneous and parallel communications such as WinCC, PUT/GET from S7 PLC, production-data acquisition, S7-communication-drivers and programming-packages such as Step7, TIA Portal or PG2000.
Advantages:
- Simple and fast networking
- PLC-protection thanks to built-in PLC-firewall
- Multiplexer for all protocols
- Integration as S7 controller with CP 343-1
- Access to S7 data via S7-TCP/IP with PUT/GET
- Module search without "annoying" network-card-selection
- Free virtual-com-port for non-Step7-applications
- Qualified support
- Comprehensive documentation
Connectivity:
- S7-GATE module directly connected to the PC/device with a patch cable
- S7-GATE module directly connected to the PC/device with a crosslink cable

Configuration:
S7-GATE is designed for quick commissioning. After the module has been plugged into the bus or externally supplied with 24V DC, only an IP address is assigned via the TIC-driver or directly via the Web-interface . The controllers can then be accessed from the network. With the TIC-driver, there is no need for any additional installation outside of the Siemens world. The configuration takes place directly in the PG-PC interface settings and is therefore optimally integrated. Any network device that speaks S7-TCP/IP RFC1006, such as HMI-devices or PGs, can access the module directly.
In the S7-project itself, the adapter can be integrated using a placeholder entry. This is not a must, operation without project change is possible immediately. The S7-communication runs directly via S7-TCP/IP and expands each MPI-/PROFIBUS with a network gateway. It doesn't matter which control types (S7-200 / S7-300 / S7-400) are connected to the fieldbus of the PLC network.

The IP filter is used to determine whether or not the entered IP-addresses or IP-address-ranges may communicate
with the connected controllers via the module.
The list can be edited centrally be switched with a button from "allowed" on "not allowed".

With the management of the data-areas it is determined whether the entered data-areas can be read/written
via the module with the connected controllers. A central button for the function determines whether the
specified inputs are "allowed" or "not allowed" are.
The input itself is kept very simple: "r" for reading and "w" for writing, a ":"
as a separator and then the data-area in S7-format. If there is only one CPU on the bus, the CPU-address
does not even have to be specified, the participant on which the module is plugged in is used.

Via the connection-menu and the included bus-device-display, it is possible to display the diagnostics
buffer of the respective device without having to open Simatic-Manager or TIA-Portal separately.
The data received from the module is output directly in one piece without the hassle of changing
tabs. All data at a glance.

Networking of all S7-controllers (S7-200/300/400), for example with your production-data-acquisition, Industry 4.0 (OPC Server UA or Classic), panels and other
devices that communicate via S7-TCPIP RFC1006. One module for all bus-types: PPI, MPI and Profibus.
Even the very old "S7-200" with a pure PPI-protocol can be used, regardless of the firmware version!
View information from the connected bus-system in plain text without using the Simatic-Manager or TIA-Portal. With the connection-menu
you get the list of reachable nodes, marked in color whether it is an "active bus-participant", is a "candidate for inclusion in the bus" or a "passive bus-participant".
You can also see whether cyclic bus-parameter-protocols have been received, you are "in the bus" yourself, the bus-address of the participant recognized as a
"direct participant" (on which the S7-LAN is located) and whether the contained modules such as "variable control", "gateway-coupling",... actively communicate.

Direct data-exchange between S7-PLCs with S7-LAN.
Thanks to active PUT/GET directly in the module without superordinate head control!
Transfer data directly from one MPI/Profibus-PLC to another.
Bus independent! MPI-bus <--> Profibus / Profibus <--> Profibus / MPI-bus <--> MPI-bus

Pair your S7 directly with your S5, thanks to the active PUT/GET in the S7-LAN no problem.
Each MPI/Profibus-CPU exchanges data directly without using a CP.
No head-control or changes in the S5-PLC needed.

S7-PLC with PPI, MPI, Profibus connection, but data should be read/written via network?
Ethernet-CP cannot be used because of the effort (hardware-configuration), price, space in the rack, availability. Plug S7-LAN-module/MPI-LAN-cable
into a free bus-connector, assign the IP-address and the PLC can be reached via the network. There is no need to invest any more effort. The adapter
can be parameterized via an integrated web-server or a configuration-tool. No changes to the S7-PLC are necessary to operate the adapter.
The adapter can also be used to implement PUT/GET-connections to other controls, but the PLC-program must be changed for this. Other PLCs can just
as well read/write data from this controller via PUT/GET; nothing needs to be changed in the PLC program.
Automation very easy: Connect, parameterize and work.

Your’re right in the middle of your production line and and should move around the machine and simultaneously observe / manage. No problem, you parameterize the ALF, connect to the S7-LAN and connect to the WIFI-network of the ALF and are ONLINE on the PLC.
